GED – Four Separate Tests

There are four independent subtests (separate modules) that measure the knowledge level in the subject fields of

  • Math (115 minutes)
  • Language Arts (150 minutes)
  • Science (90 minutes)
  • Social Studies (70 minutes)

You may take one or more subtests at a time, in your preferred order. There’s no requirement to complete the four GED modules in one sitting.

The GED exam assesses knowledge at a level comparable to what high school students are expected to know upon graduation.

To be allowed into the test center, a valid government-issued ID is required, such as a current driver’s license, military ID, State ID Card, or passport. High school and university ID cards, as well as library cards, are not valid IDs.

GED Cost

The State of Utah GED exam costs $144 for all four tests, so $36 per individual subtest (module).

Again, there’s no need to take it all in one session. The GED exam includes four subject tests, including an essay.

You can prepare for, take, and pay for the four GED modules one at a time and in your preferred order.

The Online GED Test

In the past, you could not sit for the GED exam in an online format. To earn your GED credential, you had to come in person to one of Utah’s state-designated GED testing facilities.

Well, that changed some years back with the introduction of an online option to take the GED exam. A proctor will oversee online if all goes according to the regulations.

For more information on this development, see the page “Introducing the online proctored GED exam.
