What’s on the GED and HiSET Tests

The HiSET has five subtests in the academic fields of

• Language Arts Reading
• Language Arts Writing
• Math
• Science
• Social Studies

The GED test has merged the reading and writing sections into a single Language subtest, so there are now four GED exams.

HiSET testing can be done on a computer or on paper, while the GED is offered exclusively on a computer.

The diploma that you’ll receive upon successfully passing the HiSET or GED exam is accepted across America in the same way as a high school degree.

The HiSET and GED exams measure academic proficiency at the level of a graduating high school senior.

The Online HiSET and GED Exams

In earlier days, online HiSET or GED testing was not available. To acquire your Louisiana high school equivalency (HSE) diploma, you needed to appear in person at an official Louisiana testing center.

A few years back, however, the introduction of online HiSET and GED testing options changed that.

So now you can take the HiSET or GED exam from home while a proctor monitors the test-taking process and ensures everything complies with the regulations.

If you want to take the GED test online, you must first achieve sufficient results (scores in the ‘green’ zone) on the GED Ready test, the official practice test from GED Testing Service.

For each GED subtest, there is a GED Ready test, so four overall, for a total of $32 ($7.99 per practice test) on top of the regular GED testing fees.
