This page shows all HiSET and GED classes and test centers in the Lafayette area. Louisiana uses both exams for the state’s high school equivalency (HSE) testing program.

The HiSET exam, like the GED®, offers students who quit high school before graduating an extra chance to acquire an equivalent degree.

The HiSET has five independent, modular subject tests that address the following academic areas:

• Mathematics
• English Language Reading
• English Language Writing
• Social Studies
• Science

GED testing includes four independent subtests as the reading and writing sections were melted into one Language Arts sub-exam. So, there are four separate GED subtests.

The five HiSET sub-exams are available in both paper-based and computer-based formats, whereas the four GED sub-exams must be taken on a computer. All subtests can be taken one at a time and in any order.

Online HiSET or GED testing was, until recently, not possible. Testing had to be done at a state-designated testing site in person, but now, online HiSET and GED testing options have been introduced. Learn more below.

The diploma that you’ll receive upon successful completion of the HiSET or GED exam is accepted in the same way as a high school degree by practically all employers and schools.

HiSET Online Testing Option

Until recently, you could not take the HiSET or GED exam in an online format. If you wanted to earn your Louisiana high school equivalency diploma, you had to show up in person at an official Louisiana HSE testing facility. Now, however, this has all changed with the arrival of online HiSET and GED testing options called the HiSET-At-Home Exam and the OP (Online Proctored) GED Test.

So now you also have the option to take the HiSET or GED assessment from your home using an online format where a proctor will see if you do everything in line with some pretty strict regulations.
