Online GED Testing
To be able to take the GED test, there was never an online option. If you wanted to get hold of your GED credential, you needed to come to an official Florida GED testing center and sit for the four GED modules in person.
Well, that has changed with the arrival of a new online GED test, though Florida suspended the online GED test on Jan-10-24. An online proctor will guide you through the entire test-taking process. Check out this post: ‘Online GED test introduced,’ for more information.
Four Timed GED Tests
When the latest computerized GED test was introduced a few years back, all earlier test results had expired and could no longer be carried over. Students with incomplete testing results had to begin all over again and needed to register for the GED exam as first-time candidates.
The GED exam still provides the chance to acquire a second education credential but goes much further and also measures career and college readiness skills needed for further academic education and the contemporary workplace.
The GED exam version comes with four separate tests that cover:
- Language Arts (155 minutes and includes a 10-minute break. This test also includes a 45-minute extended response (essay)
- Mathematics (120 minutes and includes an on-screen calculator-allowed section)
- Science (90 minutes and includes a few short answer subjects)
- Social Studies (70 minutes)
Monroe County School District
Monroe County School District (MCSD)’s Adult Education program no longer administers the GED exam in Monroe County, but GED preparation will continue to be offered. Now, Florida Keys Community College (FKCC)’s testing center is the only location where candidates can take the GED tests in Monroe County.
The GED exam is completely computer-based; paper and pencil tests are no longer available, no exceptions. The Continuing Education Department at Florida Keys Community College (FKCC) now handles all applicants who can register for the exam at GED.com., or call 1-877-392-6433.
Detailed instructions on how to register online and schedule tests are available at MyGED, an online portal for all GED-related details, school descriptions, and job market developments.
FKCC’s Adult Education will help you realize your goals. The GED credential allows you to access colleges and universities and will ensure you find a good job.
