GED® and HiSET testing is available online and at certified Tennessee test centers.

The tests give individuals who didn’t complete high school one more chance to earn an equivalent degree.

The HiSET and GED measure knowledge at a level similar to that of HS students upon graduation.

There are five HiSET tests that assess knowledge in the academic areas of

• English Language Writing
• English Language Reading
• Social Studies
• Science
• Math

On the GED test, the writing and reading portions were combined into one Reasoning through Language Arts sub-exam.

You have the option to take the four GED or five HiSET subject tests separately.

In earlier days, online HiSET or GED testing was not possible. You had to show up at an official Tennessee testing center in person.

Online HiSET and GED Tests

Until recently, there never had been an option to take the GED or HiSET exam over the Internet. You were required to report to an official Tennessee testing center in person.
