GED Classes Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

This post includes an overview of all GED®-HiSET classes in the Harrisburg region.

Pennsylvania uses the GED and the HiSET for high school equivalency (HSE) testing.

HSE testing offers persons who never completed high school one more option to earn an equivalent credential.

The GED has four separate subtests in Literacy, Science, Social Studies, and Math. You must deal with all four tests within two years.

The HiSET comes with five tests. The Literacy section includes a reading and a writing test. You can take these subtests separately as well.

The HiSET is offering both on-computer and on-paper testing, wheres the GED is exclusively offered on a computer.

Online GED or HiSET testing is NOT possible. You must show up at an official state-approved HSE testing site and sit for the tests in person.

Modular GED

The GED exam has four tests in the subject fields of Math, Literacy, Science, and Social Studies. You can take and pay for one subtest (module) when you think you are all set to do so, and your scores will remain valid for two years. The HiSET has two literacy tests (writing and reading), so five in total. The HiSET is not modular.

To find out if you qualify, go to HSE testing in Pennsylvania. Check out as well this page that has leads to all GED programs across America.

What is the GED-HiSET?

The certificate that will be awarded after completing the Pennsylvania GED or HiSET exam (the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Secondary School Diploma) is all over the nation regarded as being equivalent to a normal high school diploma by government agencies, employers, and colleges. The GED tests can be taken separately (modular) within a 2-year period of time. The HiSET tests can also be done separately. The GED tests cost $30 each ($120 in total), the HiSET sets you back $90.

The GED/HiSET exam and also preparation classes cover basic competencies that students learn in high school, and the four tests of the new GED exam are in the subject fields of literacy, math, science, and social studies. The HiSET includes five tests as the literacy section is cut up in a writing and a reading test.

GED registration and scoring

All information about the GED program is available at GED.com, and when you register with My GED you have access to a portal where you will be taken the entire program step-by-step. Here you also can find relevant information on academic programs, job market trends, employment possibilities, and university profiles. On each of the four GED tests you had to score at least 150 points to pass but two years after the latest GED version was launched, this requirement was adjusted to 145. Taking the four tests separately is possible within a two year period.

Is there an online GED-HiSET exam?

No, there is not. To acquire your own GED or HiSET diploma you still must come to a state-designated examination center to sit for the GED or HiSET tests in person, but now the GED allows you to take one test (or more, if you like) at the time you feel you are ready to do so. Taking a GED/HiSET prep course via the internet is a great preparation method, but the GED and the HiSET examinations are just NOT offered online. Beware of websites that declare something else. These scam artists just are after your hard-earned dollars, and their documents have no value at all.
