GED Classes Greenville, Mississippi

This is an overview of all GED® prep classes and test centers in the Greenville, Mississippi, region.

Mississippi uses three exams for High School Equivalency (HSE) testing, the TASC, HiSET, and GED exams.

HSE testing offers people who never finished high school the opportunity to obtain an equivalent diploma.

All three tests measure skills at a level that’s also expected of high school seniors upon graduation.

The GED has four individual subsets in Math, Science, Social Studies, and Literacy that can be taken one at a time within a 2-year period of time.

The TASC and HiSET contain five subtests (Literacy has separate reading and writing tests) that can also be taken separately.

HSE testing over the internet is NOT possible. Testing needs to be done at one of Mississippi’s official HSE testing centers.

GED advantages

The  GED exam has certainly some advantages: whereas test-takers still must appear at a Mississippi official testing center to take the exam, the process of registration has become much more simple and convenient. Teachers and officials initially had great worries that many older students, not being so familiar with computers, could encounter great difficulty with the new GED exam. To see if you qualify, go to HSE Testing in Mississippi and you may also want to check this post with links to all U.S. GED prep class locations.

Students now have the chance to check their test scores right after the exam. In the old system, they had to wait two to three weeks to learn the results. A great feature of the GED test is that you have the option to take one of the four tests (modules) when you feel sufficiently prepared to do so. No need to take the entire battery in one take and your scores have a 2-year validity! The TASC and HiSET subtests may, if you wish, also be done separately.

For details about the reduced GED passing score (lowered to 145), go to this GED Passing Standards page. TASC and HiSET exams have their own scoring methods.

Passing Scores

All HSE exams (HiSET, TASC, and GED) are scored differently.
GED scoring occurs on a 100-200 scale. Passing score: 145. HSE equivalency: 145-164. College-ready: 165-174. Extra college credit: 175-200.
HiSET scoring occurs on a scale up to 20. Passing score: 8. Overall score: at least 45. Essay result: at least 2 out of 8.
TASC scoring occurs on a scale that goes to 800 and the passing score is 500. Essay result at least 2 out of 8.

GED information and registration

Go to GED.com to receive answers to every question you may have, and after registration on My GED (a great online GED portal), you will be guided through the whole process before, during and after the GED exam. Here you also can get all sorts of great information on schools and their programs, developments in the job market, and economic trends and figures. To get all set for the tests fast, check out this website’s totally free video classes and practice tests.

Is the GED available online?

Just like the old version, the GED exam is NOT available over the internet and this is also the case for the TASC and HiSET exams. If you want to secure your HSE diploma you need to come to a state-approved HSE testing site to sit for the four tests. Studying and practicing via the internet is fine, but the actual exam must be taken in person at designated test sites.

*) MACE, Mississippi Action for Community Education

MACE, Mississippi Action for Community Education, Inc. is a not-for-profit minority rural development agency established by local community leaders in the late 1960s with the mission to enhance social, physical, economic development around rural areas in the Mississippi Delta.

Already early in the agency’s history, MACE volunteers discovered that besides the huge problems caused by issues like race and poverty, there is the wide-spread structural problem that can be found in rural Mississippi Delta communities of serious underdevelopment. Before real community development can take place, MACE learned that first the required inter-human and organization capacities needed to be developed. First, there was a dire need for establishing basic social and political structures in the communities.

MACE provides a great Adult Education Program particularly designed for persons of at least 18 years old who want to improve their knowledge and skills in reading, writing, math, and life skills. Developing these skills will help participants in getting all set to take and pass the HSE (High School Equivalency) Diploma.

Holding the HSE diploma will certainly improve their employment outlook, open doors to a college education, and in general enhance their competencies as family members, employees, and community members. MACE also participates in the YouthBuild Program.
