What’s on the HiSET and GED tests

The HiSET exam comes with five tests measuring a test taker’s knowledge of these subjects:

• English Language Literacy Reading
• English Language Literacy Writing
• Math
• Science
• Social Studies

The GED exam has four independent subtests, as the reading and writing sections were combined into one Language Arts subtest.

The HiSET is available in both paper-based and computerized formats, whereas the GED is only available on a computer.

The Online GED and HiSET Tests

In earlier days, the HiSET or GED exam was not available online. You had to appear in person at one of Tennessee’s state-approved official testing centers.

Well, the introduction of online proctored GED and HiSET test-taking options some years back changed that.

If you want to take the GED test online, keep in mind that you’ll first have to reach passing results (‘green’ scores) on the official GED Ready practice test.
