Tips for writing your GED-TASC essay

Why the TASC?

New York decided to switch to the TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion) exam in 2014 because the new GED exam was getting too expensive (the state pays for all cost), and only available in a computer-based format. The TASC is much cheaper than the GED exam and will for several years be offered in a paper as well as a computer version. For eligibility criteria visit GED (TASC) in New York.

Is the TASC free?

Yes, the state of New York pays for the cost, and most preparation classes are offered at no charge as well. Offering a high school equivalency examination which is highly accessible and very affordable is not only important for adult learners but crucial to our national economy as well, plays a major role for the future global competitiveness of our nation.

Non-profit organization CTB/McGraw-Hill has a long and impressive track record of experience in assessing levels of achievements of adult learners and being at the service of professionals committed to adult education. The organization has been working hard with various states across the nation and has introduced the TASC exam in January 2014. If you want to earn your New York State HSE (high school equivalency) diploma, you must come to a state-designated testing site. Online TASC or GED testing is NOT possible.

The TASC exam

The NY State High School Equivalency Diploma that you will receive after completing the New York HSE exam is accepted as being of the same value as a high school diploma and is recognized by employers, government institutions and colleges and universities all over the United States. See also this post that links to all GED prep locations and programs in the U.S. and more help is also available via these free practice tests for your HSE diploma.

The TASC/HSE test examines elementary competencies that students get instructed in high school. The TASC, as high school equivalency exam, ensures that everybody will continue to have the chance to earn the alternative to a standard high school diploma. The TASC examination tests the skills and academic knowledge of adults at the level that can be expected of high school seniors and is brought in line with the Common Core State Standards.

The five TASC tests

The TASC covers English language arts (two tests, on reading and on writing), math, science, and social studies. The test is available in English and Spanish and also in large print, Braille and in a video version. The TASC exam base price is $54 per student, and this includes scoring and essential materials, though in New York the test is offered free of charge for residents, as the state subsidizes the exam totally.

The TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion) exam a very affordable and nationally recognized high school equivalency test that measures applicants’ levels of achievement in relation to college and the workforce readiness.
