Posted here are all GED prep class sites and testing facilities in the Rochester region. New York State is using the GED exam for its high school equivalency testing program.

The GED test gives adults who never completed high school another chance at securing an equivalent degree.

The GED® (General Education Development) assessment is a set of four independent sub-exams that can be taken one (or more) at a time.

In the period 2014-2021, New York was offering the TASC exam for high school equivalency (HSE) testing, but that was discontinued at the end of 2021. Earlier TASC passing scores also count for the GED exam!

The four GED subject tests measure an applicant’s knowledge of these fields:

• English Language Arts (reading and writing combined)
• Math
• Science
• Social Studies

The GED exam measures basic knowledge at a level that compares to that of graduating high school students.

In most states, GED testing is available at certified test centers and online for qualifying candidates. Online GED testing is, however, not available in New York.

If you complete the GED exam successfully, you will be awarded the NY State High School Equivalency Diploma.
