This post lists all GED and HiSET prep facilities and testing centers in the Boston area. Massachusetts uses the GED exam for high school equivalency testing and also welcomed the HiSET exam.

Both exams are available only at testing centers, as Massachusetts suspended the GED and HiSET online exams.

Both the GED and HiSET offer adults who did not have the chance to complete their regular high school education.

This way, they can earn a credential that is recognized all over America as the equivalent of a standard high school diploma. Both exams assess academic proficiency at a level that compares to that of high school grads.

Some GED and HiSET students prefer to learn at a physical class site supervised by an instructor, while others can benefit from an accredited online program.

The HiSET has five subtests covering the content areas of

• Language Reading
• Language Writing
• Math
• Science
• Social Studies

The GED has four subtests (writing and reading are combined in one Literacy test), and all GED and HiSET modules can be taken independently and in any order.

The GED must be taken on a computer, whereas the HiSET is offered on paper and on a computer.

Until recently, there was no possibility of taking the HiSET or GED exam over the Internet. But now, both high school equivalency exams have introduced online testing options. However, Massachusetts has suspended online GED or HiSET testing.

Online GED and HiSET Tests

Until recently, you couldn’t take the HiSET or GED test online. That has now changed, however, with the introduction of online test-taking options for both the GED and the HiSET exam. Be aware, though, that in Massachusetts, online testing was suspended!
