GED Classes Winston-Salem, North Carolina

Last Updated on May 24, 2024.

This post includes a complete overview of GED prep classes and test centers in the Winston-Salem region. North Carolina uses two exams for high school equivalency testing, the GED and HiSET.

Online GED Classes

A simple and easy way of getting your GED diploma.

Learn fast, stay motivated, and pass your GED  test quickly.

Both exams are available online and at state-approved test centers.

The assessments give persons without a high school diploma one more option to earn a credential that is equivalent to a high school diploma.

The GED includes four individual tests measuring a test-taker’s skills and knowledge of these subjects:

  • Mathematics
  • Social Studies
  • English Language Literacy
  • Science

You may write these sub-exams separately and in your desired order.

The HiSET exam has five subtests (individual Reading and Writing tests) that are available separately as well.

Online GED or HiSET testing was, until recently, never possible. Testing had to be done at an official North Carolina test center.

The recent introduction of both an online HiSET and GED test has, however, changed that. Read more below.

Launching Online HiSET and GED Exams

You could never take the HiSET or GED exam online. If you wanted to get hold of your North Carolina high school equivalency (HSE) credential, you were required to show up in person at an official North Carolina HSE testing center.

Now, with the launch of both GED and HiSET online testing options, that changed. If you want to get informed about the newly introduced GED online test-taking option, visit The online GED test, and to learn more about online HiSET testing, check out this page: Introducing the online HiSET exam.
