The GED comes with four subtests, or modules, that cover the academic subject areas of

  • English Language Literacy
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies

To complete the GED exam, you don’t have to take the entire battery in one take. You can take the tests one (or more) at a time.

In earlier days, the GED exam could not be taken over the Internet. Testing was exclusively done at official Rhode Island testing sites.

Fortunately, that has now changed as we saw the launch of online proctored GED testing. Check below for more details.

Launching Online Proctored GED Testing

In the past, online GED testing had never been an option. To acquire your GED degree, you had to show up personally at an official Rhode Island state-approved GED testing site.

Well, this has now finally come to an end with the introduction of an online proctored way to sit for the exam. If you want to read more about this new development, go to ‘Launching the online GED exam’.

Who is the GED for?

The Rhode Island High School Equivalency (HSE) program is using the General Educational Development (GED) tests to assess the knowledge and skills of applicants and are administered throughout Rhode Island by test centers that are authorized by the RI Board of Education.

Those individuals who complete the GED set of four tests successfully will be awarded the Rhode Island High School Equivalency Diploma. The GED exam is developed to help persons who never completed high school and gives them another chance to acquire a diploma that is accepted in the same way as a common HS diploma by employers and colleges across the US.

The GED exam needs to be taken on authorized computers, and the exam includes four separate tests in the content areas of

  • Reasoning through Language Arts (150 minutes)
  • Mathematical Reasoning (115 minutes)
  • Science (90 minutes)
  • Social Studies (70 minutes)

The Rhode Island price tag for each of the four tests is $36 ($144 for the set of four tests). There is no need to take all tests at one time; you can prepare for, schedule, and pay for one test every time you feel you are ready to take that subject test.

Your Future

Preparation is necessary for every important exam, and students who prepare well are likely to pass sooner. This also applies to the GED exam, which has become very rigorous. The four-part GED exam is administered fully on a computer; paper-based testing is a thing of the past.

A great advantage of obtaining your GED certificate is that finding a better job will be easier as most vacant jobs in this country require a high school diploma or GED certificate. The GED certificate is recognized as equivalent to a high school degree by virtually all colleges and universities, and getting your GED degree allows you to go on with studying at institutions of higher learning.

Registration has become very simple. Just sign up for MyGED at GED.com, and you can choose the day and the time that suits you best. You can schedule (and pay) one test at a time, so make sure you are properly prepared every time you take an individual test.
