The GED test assesses proficiency at a level comparable to what students learn in four years of high school.

In the period 2014 through 2021, New York was using the TASC exam for high school equivalency (HSE) testing, but this was not continued by the end of 2021. If you already passed portions of the TASC exam, you can transfer these results to the GED exam!

The GED exam includes five individual subject tests that cover

• Language Arts (writing and reading combined)
• Mathematics
• Science
• Social Studies

The New York State GED exam is offered at no cost to the state’s residents.
