Who is the GED Exam for?
The GED (General Education Development) program is designed to give adults who have not completed high school another opportunity to earn a diploma equivalent to a high school diploma.
The certificate that is awarded after successful completion of the Connecticut GED test is recognized and accepted as equivalent to a high school diploma by state and federal official institutions, employers, and colleges across the nation.
Stamford Public Schools GED Prep Classes
Stamford Public Schools Adult & Continuing Education prepares adult students to pass the 4-part, computer-based GED test and earn their State of Connecticut GED diplomas.
In addition to the basic computer and keyboarding skills required to take the exam successfully, the students receive instruction that covers the topics of the four exams.
Upon registration for the program, a diagnostic test will be administered for proper placement.
Based on these results, students receive instruction at an appropriate level. For placement in GED classes, the applicants have to reach at least a 236 score on the placement test.
Students who don’t reach that level must first attend an Adult Basic Education (ABE) course in math, reading, and writing until they meet the minimum required level to successfully attend the GED prep course.
Age Requirements
To register for the GED prep course and sit for the Connecticut GED test, applicants must be Connecticut residents aged 17 or older.
17-year-old applicants must be officially withdrawn from their school for at least six (6) months and submit an official withdrawal form signed by a parent/guardian.
Applicants 18 years old can submit (instead of a withdrawal form) a statement signed by the high school they last attended stating that their 9th-grade class has graduated.
In Connecticut, GED testers are not required to attend a prep course before they can sit for the GED test, but attaining a satisfactory result on the official practice test (GED Ready) is mandated to qualify for the Connecticut GED test. There is a GED Ready test for each subject exam.
So, all applicants looking to register for the official Connecticut GED exam must first pass the 4 GED Ready practice tests available on GED.com (see below for free GED Ready Vouchers).
Connecticut GED Price Tag
Connecticut subsidized GED testing. For all GED test-takers 21 years of age and over, there’s a $13 registration fee. Applicants younger than 21 and military personnel pay nothing.
Upon successful results on all four GED modules, test-takers are awarded the Connecticut High School Diploma. Stamford Adult Education GED prep classes are offered in both morning and evening sessions.
The Online GED Test
Until a few years ago, sitting for the Connecticut GED exam over the Internet was not an option, and it still is not in Connecticut.
You must come, in person, to one of the official GED testing sites to earn your Connecticut high school equivalency credential. The state canceled the online GED exam.
In most states, that changed a few years back with the introduction of the online GED test, where a proctor will guide you through the test-taking process.
Perhaps you can write the GED exam online in a state that has no residency requirement. To learn more about taking the online GED exam, check out this post: The online proctored GED exam.
To qualify for the online GED test, you first must reach passing scores (“green” results) on the official practice test GED Ready. For each GED sub-exam, there is a GED Ready test, for a total of 4.
The GED Ready test costs $7.99, adding $32 to your overall GED testing expenses in your chosen state.
Free GED Ready Test Vouchers
If you learn for your GED with an Onsego Advantage Plan, there’s no need to buy the GED Ready tests, since all Advantage Plans from Onsego include four free GED Ready vouchers – a fine $32 bonus.
Onsego’s plans are actually a quite affordable way to get optimally prepared fast for your GED exam. They start at $79 for the 6-month option, which also includes the 4 free vouchers and more extras.
