Listed here are all GED prep class sites and testing facilities in the Scranton area. Pennsylvania uses two options for high school equivalency testing, the HiSET and the GED.
The GED and HiSET can be taken online or at certified Pennsylvania testing facilities.
Both tests give adults who did not graduate from high school the chance to obtain an equivalent diploma.
The GED exam contains four individual subtests that measure knowledge in the following academic subject areas:

It doesn’t matter when you left school.
- Language Arts
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
You can take one subtest at a time when you feel properly prepared. You don’t have to take the entire GED battery in one session.
The HiSET tests (five, as there are separate literacy writing and literacy reading tests) are also available separately.
In the past, the HiSET and GED tests could not be taken online. Personal appearance at a state-designated testing site was required.

Introducing Online Proctored HiSET and GED Testing
In earlier days, both the GED and the HiSET could not be taken online. You had to show up in person at one of Pennsylvania’s official, state-designated test centers. But now, all of that has changed with the introduction of online proctored HiSET and GED testing options.
For more information on the newly launched HiSET online exam, go to ‘Introducing the online proctored HiSET test,’ and to learn all about the online proctored GED exam, visit ‘Welcoming the online proctored GED exam.’
