The GED (General Education Development) program is for adults who never completed their regular high school education.

This way, they are given another chance to earn a credential that is all over North America accepted in the same way as a regular high school diploma.

There are four independent, modular GED sub-exams that cover the academic subject areas of

  • Language Arts (Writing and Reading covered in 1 subtest)
  • Social Studies
  • Science
  • Math

In most states, the GED exam is available online (for qualifying test-takers) and at state-certified GED test centers. In New York, however, the GED exam is not available in an online format.

In the years 2014 through 2021, New York was using the TASC exam for its high school equivalency program, but that wasn’t continued. If you already passed some TASC sub-exams, don’t worry; those scores are now invalid, as you can transfer them to the new GED test!

One Subtest at a Time

You are not required to take the entire GED battery all at once. You can sit for the four modules one (or more) at a time. Many students start with the subject test they think is the easiest for them. That will build up their confidence.

GED testing is quite challenging; The passing standards are set at a level that around 40% of high school grads could not pass the test on the first try. So proper preparation is essential and our free GED practice tests help you identify the areas that need most of your attention.
