GED Classes Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

This post contains a full listing of GED®-HiSET class locations and testing sites in the Pittsburgh region.

Pennsylvania is using the computerized GED for its high school equivalency (HSE) assessment program.

Additionally, Pennsylvania welcomed the HiSET for this purpose.

The HiSET is available both on-paper and on-computer whereas the GED is done fully computerized.

The GED includes four independent modules (subtests) in Literacy, Math, Science, and Social Studies, that must be completed within two years.

The HiSET exam has five subtests that can also be done separately (the Literacy part has individual reading and writing tests).

Both tests assess knowledge at a level that is comparable to that of high school seniors upon graduation.

WCCC no longer offers GED Testing

Is the GED or HiSET available online?

No, the GED and the HiSET exams are not available online. The tests have to be taken face-to-face at a registered GED /HiSET testing center. Websites that claim differently are false! In the United States, we can still find close to 40 million men and women who never finished high school, and the GED and HiSET programs are mainly intended for them. On an annual basis, more than half a million persons complete the GED/HiSET exam, and you could actually be one of them.

GED passing score

The GED exam’s passing score was 150 on a 100-200 scale, but this recently was adjusted to 145 because studies had shown that GED graduates were often doing better in college than high school graduates, so the bar was apparently raised too high. All details can be read in this website’s new posts. The HiSET exam has its own scoring method. To see if you qualify, go to Pennsylvania GED-HiSET Testing.

GED registration

To register for the GED tests, go to and make your account at MyGED, a portal that will support you in every step of your GED experience, and show you job opportunities and explain college programs. This is also the location to schedule and pay for your tests. To learn all about the lowered GED passing score (from 150 to 145), check this GED News article and see also this page that has links to all U.S. GED prep locations.

GED-one test at a time

The HiSET includes five tests (literacy writing, literacy reading, math, science, and social studies) and will set you back $90. The HiSET is available in both a paper-based and a computer-based version, while the GED is only offered on a computer. The GED test has four sub-tests (modules) that may be done individually. You are given two years to deal with all four subtests. The HiSET tests can be taken individually as well.
