There’s no need to take the entire GED battery in one take. You can prepare for and take one subtest, or module, at a time.
When you have created your account at GED.com, you have the option to register and pay for one subtest at a time.
It used to be that the GED test was not available via the Internet. You needed to go in person to one of Virginia’s official GED testing sites.

Introducing the Online Proctored GED Exam
Until recently, you didn’t have the choice to take the GED exam in an online format. If you wanted to acquire a Virginia GED credential, you always were required to show up in person at one of Virginia’s state-recognized GED testing facilities.
This has now changed, however, as we saw the launch of a new online GED test-taking opportunity. Qualifying students can now take the four GED modules online from the comfort of their homes.
An online proctor oversees the entire test-taking process and checks if all is done in accordance with the rules. To learn more about this new development, visit Introducing the Online GED Test.
