GED Classes Newport News, Virginia

This post includes an overview of all GED® prep class locations and testing sites in the Newport News area. Virginia is using the computer-formatted GED exam for its high school equivalency (HSE) testing program.

The GED test is available online and at certified Virginia GED test facilities.

The GED exam gives adults who never finished high school the chance to obtain an equivalent degree.

GED testing is done through four independent subtests (modules) in Math, Science, Social Studies, and Literacy.

You can opt to sit for the four GED modules one at a time. There’s no need to take it all in one testing session.

The GED exam measures knowledge and skills at a similar level as may be expected of graduating HS students.

For information about the newly launched online proctored GED test-taking option, check the bottom of this post.

Launching online proctored GED testing

In the past, there was no option to take the GED test via the internet. If you wanted to acquire your Virginia GED degree, you always had to present yourself, in-person, at one of Virginia’s state-approved, official GED testing centers.

Now that changed. Recently we could witness the launch of a new online GED test-taking option that allows qualifying students to sit for the four GED modules from the comfort of their homes. An online proctor monitors the entire process and checks if everything goes in line with the rules. If you would like to learn all about this great development, go to The introduction of the online proctored GED test.
