What is the GED Exam?
The GED exam is a group of four modular (independent) exams that, when taken successfully, will lead to the New York State High School Equivalency Diploma. This credential is equivalent to a regular high school diploma and is accepted as such all across the nation by virtually all local, state, and federal government agencies, employers, and institutions of higher learning.
The GED credential is a state-issued diploma that certifies that the holder has been educated at a level comparable to a New York state high school graduate. This is different from the External Diploma Program (EDP), which is sometimes confused with the GED.
The EDP is a partnership program with individual school districts that gives adults the opportunity to earn a diploma from a participating high school just as if they had attended that school.
