The assessments are for adults who left high school before graduating and offer them the chance to obtain an equivalent credential.
Both the HiSET and GED measure knowledge at a level that may be expected of students after four years of high school.
GED testing involves four independent subtests that measure a student’s proficiency in
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
- English Language
HiSET testing occurs through five individual subtests in Language Reading, Language Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science.
Online GED Classes
A simple and easy way of getting your GED diploma.
The GED and HiSET exams are offered both paper-based and on a computer in New Hampshire. The state is actually the only US state where the GED test is available on paper. Please note, however, that the paper-based GED test is far more expensive than the computer-based version!
In earlier days, the GED or HiSET exam was not offered over the Internet. You had to go to an official HiSET testing center and sit for the test in person.
Now, however, with the launch of online proctored GED and HiSET exams, that has changed; more information is found at the bottom of this page.

Online GED and HiSET Exams
In the past, if you wanted to take the New Hampshire GED or HiSET test, your personal appearance at one of New Hampshire’s official testing sites was required. There simply was no online option to sit for the high school equivalency (HSE) test. Well, this has now changed with the arrival of the online proctored (OP) GED test and the HiSET-AT-Home exam.
To learn all about the Online Proctored (OP) GED test, visit this page, and to read all about the online HiSET exam, check out ‘Introducing the HiSET-At-Home exam.’
Your Future
There are definitely a few great advantages of getting your GED or HiSET certificate. It will be far easier to get a (better) job because most unfilled jobs require at least a high school degree or similar.
In general, recruiting agencies and employers recognize that the GED or HiSET diploma is the equivalent of a high school degree. Also, by achieving your GED or HiSET diploma, your self-esteem will be boosted.
By acquiring your GED or HiSET diploma, you will feel proud that you set a great step towards a better life for yourself and your family. You have proven to be able to accomplish what is on your mind. Attaining the New Hampshire GED or HiSET diploma allows you to go on with your education as well. The credential is accepted by nearly all colleges and universities.
GED and HiSET Passing Scores
The four GED sub-exams are scored on a 100 to 200 scale, and the passing score (on each sub-exam) is 145. There are three passing score ranges:
- 145-164 = high school equivalent passing score
- 165-174 – college-ready score
- 175-200 = college-ready + credit score
The passing score on each of the five HiSET modules is 8 out of 20. Your total score must be in the 45-100 range, and on your essay, you need to come to a score of at least 2 out of a possible 6.
