It doesn’t matter when you left school.
The assessment gives adults who left high school prematurely the opportunity to earn a degree that’s equivalent to a standard HS diploma.
The GED exam measures an applicant’s basic knowledge at a level that compares to that of high school graduates.
The exam includes four separate tests in the academic areas of
- Science
- Language Arts
- Social Studies
- Math
The four GED subtests may be taken one by one. There’s no need to sit for the entire GED battery all at once.

It used to be that online GED testing was not possible. GED applicants had to come to an official Virginia test center and sit for the four subtests in person.
This has now changed, though, with the arrival of online proctored GED testing. For more details, check the bottom of this post.

Welcoming the Online Proctored GED Test
Until recently, you couldn’t sit for the GED exam in an online format. If you were looking to secure your Virginia GED diploma, you had to always present yourself at one of Virginia’s state-approved GED test facilities.
Now, this has changed, though, as we witnessed the introduction of a new GED test-taking option, the online proctored GED test. If you qualify to take the GED test online, you can do so from the comfort of your own home.
There’ll be an online proctor who will monitor if your activities are in line with strict rules and regulations. To learn more about this new development, go to ‘The online proctored GED test.’

Your Future
The General Educational Development (GED) test was created by the American Council on Education (ACE) together with Pearson VUE. The GED program is for individuals who don’t hold a high school diploma and gives them one more chance to get a diploma that opens doors to colleges and will doubtlessly result in enhanced job options and a brighter future.
The GED diploma is, across North America, recognized as equivalent to a high school degree and accepted by virtually all academic institutions and employers.
Though there now is an online option to take the GED exam, you should beware of Internet sites claiming they can provide the GED exam or the GED diploma online. They are fraudulent. Documents purchased over the Internet have no value and will not be accepted by colleges, universities, or employers!
