Both exams are available in online formats and at state-approved HSE testing locations.

The GED® is fully computerized, while the HiSET® is offered in both a paper-based and a computer-formatted version.

The GED and HiSET exams are for adults who never finished high school and offer them another chance to earn an equivalent credential.

The GED exam includes four separate subtests, also called modules, in these subject areas:

  • Language
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Math

You have the freedom to take and pay for one (or more) of the four subtests at a time.

The HiSET is also modular and contains five subtests, as the literacy section is split up into separate writing and reading tests.

Until recently, online HSE testing was not possible. Now, however, we saw the launch of both GED and HiSET online testing options. Check below for more details.

Launching Online HiSET and GED Tests

In earlier days, both GED and HiSET tests were only offered at official Pennsylvania testing sites. Online HSE (High School Equivalency) test-taking was simply never an option. Now, that has changed as we recently witnessed the introduction of online proctored GED and HiSET testing options.

For detailed information on the new HiSET online test, check out this article: ‘Welcoming online HiSET testing,’ and for detailed information on the new GED online testing option, go to this page: ‘Welcoming online GED testing.’

Computer-Based Testing

The GED is a fully computer-based exam. Students who take the GED test on a computer score much higher, and they also finish faster. The fact of the matter is that when taking the GED modular tests on a computer, 88% pass, while for paper-based testing, this percentage is 71.

By completing the GED exam, you’ll be ready for a better future. Your GED allows you to go on to college, get a good or better job, and earn the respect you deserve. That’s the accomplishment of getting your equivalency diploma!

As said before, the GED  is a modular exam. If you fail one section, you don’t have to repeat it all again. There’s no need to take those sections again that you’ve already passed.

So, your success is just a few clicks away! Create your account at GED.com/MyGED, and when you’re ready to do so, take one of the GED sections on a computer, and when you’re ready, take and pass the remaining modules. When you’ve successfully taken the 4 modules, go to college, get a better job, and start earning more money.
