The HiSET and GED Modular Sub-exams

The HiSET has five subtests that assess a student’s knowledge of these subjects:

  • Language Writing
  • Language Reading
  • Mathematics
  • Social Studies
  • Science

The GED exam consists of four subtests, as the writing and reading portions have been combined into one Language Arts subtest.

Testing occurs at a level that’s comparable to what high school students must command upon graduation.

The HiSET is available in both a computerized and a paper-and-pencil format, while the GED test is only available in a fully computerized format. All GED and HiSET modules can be taken separately, and in any order you prefer.

HiSET Scoring

Successful applicants must earn eight points or more (out of 20) on each of the five tests and must score at least 45 points in total. They are also required to get no less than two (out of a possible six) points in the essay section.

Each of the five tests has 40 to 50 questions in multiple-choice format, and the writing section includes an essay-style assignment as well.

GED Scoring

On each GED module, you must at least reach a 145 score to pass. Your results are calibrated on a 100-200 scoring scale.

  • 145-164: high school equivalent results
  • 165-174: college-ready results
  • 175-200: college-ready + credit results

Your Future

In today’s job market, people who have left high school without a diploma are finding it hard to get any type of work. People who never finished high school face a heavy burden just to make ends meet.

For older adults without a high school diploma, going back to high school is not an option, and the GED or HiSET program is one of their best options.

The Online HiSET and GED Tests

In earlier days, the HiSET and GED exams were never offered online. To acquire your Louisiana high school equivalency credential, you were required to appear in person at one of Louisiana’s testing centers.

Some years ago, however, the introduction of both online HiSET and GED test-taking options has changed all of that.

The online HiSET exam is called the HiSET-At-Home Exam, and the GED online test is called the OP (Online Proctored) GED exam.

So now, you may also sit for the four GED or five HiSET subtests from the comfort of your home via an online testing format. A proctor will check whether you comply with the regulations.

Visit ‘The Online HiSET Exam’ to read more about the online HiSET exam.

For more information about the Online Proctored GED Test, <- check here.

Note that to qualify for online GED testing, you’ll first need to achieve ‘green’ results on four GED Ready practice tests, one per GED subtest.

They are $7.99 each, so that’ll add $32 to your overall testing costs.

If you use an Advantage Plan from Onsego for your GED prep, you will receive four vouchers for the GED Ready tests at no charge. It comes with the plan, a $32 bonus!

Onsego’s Advantage Plans are already available at $79 for the 6-month plan. All these Advantage Plans include highly effective support courses, the four GED Ready Vouchers, and a lot more.

Should we include or unlist a location? Are adjustments required? Please advise us here.
