Having a clear understanding of what your GED test scores mean in GPA terms is motivating and inspiring. Take Maria, for example. Her GED Math score is 145, Language is 180, Science is 150, and Social Studies 160.

She started with this website’s free practice tests and free online GED classes, and when she knew she was fine with online studying, she continued with Onsego GED Online Prep, an engaging, accredited program.

Obviously, she passed the GED test and got her diploma, but how can she compare it to her friend’s high school GPA? That’s where our calculator comes in. When Marie inputs her GED score for every subject in the calculator, the last field displays her estimated GPA score.

So now you also can convert your GED score to a GPA scale. To do so, add your score for each GED subject test, and your GPA score is displayed.

GED to GPA Calculator

Keep in mind that the converted GED to GPA score is just an estimation. It is not an official conversion.

When GPAs are calculated, many variables are taken into account, so it’s hard to achieve 100% accuracy.

However, this score should help you to get an idea of how your GED scores compare to a high school GPA and it reflects your achievements. Passing the GED test is huge and you should feel really good about it.

What is a Good GPA?

Usually, a GPA of 3.0 – 3.5 is considered a good score at many high schools, universities, and colleges.

Most top academic institutions require students to hold GPAs of 3.5 or higher.

When Maria entered her GED test results into the calculator, she was happy to see that her GED results translated into a 3.2 GPA score.

Similar to how a GPA is calculated, the calculator formula is based on your average GED score, so the calculator adds up all your scores and calculates the estimated result.

How the GPA is Calculated

Your GPA is the average of all your grades on a scale of 0-4.

Your grade point average (GPA) is the sum of all your course grades throughout your high school career divided by the total number of credits.

How the GED is Calculated

There are 4 GED tests that cover Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language.

GED test results are calculated on a scale that ranges from 100 to 200. To be successful on the GED test, the minimum score on all four GED tests is 145 points.

GED scores are demonstrating to what extent students can use problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

What is a Good GED Score?

In general, getting 145 points on every GED subject is a good score because it allows you to get your GED diploma.

However, if you plan to attend college, you might aim for a higher score. Getting an average of 165-174 points gives you a College Ready GED score, and scoring above 175 points qualifies you for also for up to 10 college credits.

How is the GED Test Scored?

The GED passing standards are set in a way that around 40 percent of all high school grads would not pass the GED subtests on their first try.

GED passing scores are the same for all four subtests. The four subtests are independent modules that can be dealt with one subtest at a time if you wish.

The most recent edition of the GED test was introduced in early 2014 and includes four separate subject tests in the academic fields of Mathematical Reasoning (Math), Reasoning through Language Arts (RLA), Science, and Social Studies.

Your test results are measured on a scale that ranges from 100 to 200. As said earlier, passing the GED test requires you to attain at least a 145 score on all four subtests, and averaging your scores is no option.

So when you have scored in the 100-144 GED range, you haven’t passed that subtest. The GED test has 3 passing score categories:

  • 145-164 is the GED High School Equivalency scoring range.
  • 165-174 is the GED College-Ready scoring range.
  • 175-200 is the GED College Ready + College Credit scoring range.

So you see, the higher your scores, the higher your academic achievements. The higher you score, the more you demonstrate you are ready to successfully attend rigorous college-level, credit-bearing academic programs and get all set for a rewarding career.
