This page shows you all HiSET (formerly GED) prep sites and test centers in and around Cedar Rapid. In Iowa, you must pass the five subtests of the HiSET to earn your high school equivalency diploma.
The exam offers persons who left high school without a diploma the opportunity to earn an equivalent credential.
You can sit for the HiSET® exam, like the GED®, online or at a state-approved testing site.
The test measures academic proficiency in comparison to what HS seniors must command upon graduation.
The HiSET exam includes five subtests in writing, reading, social studies, math, and science.
The HiSET is offered both on paper and in a computer-based format.
In the past, online HiSET testing was not an option. Test-takers were required to take the tests in person at a state-certified testing center.
Well, that has all changed with the arrival of the HiSET Exam At Home online testing option. Learn more below.

Online HiSET-At-Home Test
In the past, the HiSET exam was not available over the internet. To earn your Iowa HSE (high school equivalency) diploma, you needed to show up personally at an official Iowa testing site.
Now, this has changed as the HiSET-At-Home online testing option was introduced. A proctor will see if everything occurs in line with strict regulations. You can learn more here -> HiSET Exam-At-Home.
Why The HiSET?
Go to HiSET in Iowa if you want to see if you qualify, and also check these free practice tests for the GED or HiSET test. The state of Iowa stopped using the GED exam for high school equivalency (HSE) testing to replace it with the HiSET exam. The GED exam was becoming too expensive and is only available in a computer-based setting, so Iowa made the switch to another assessment program, the HiSET, which is offered both on a computer and on paper.
