The Four GED Tests

There are four independent GED subject tests (modules) in the fields of

  • Math
  • Language
  • Social Studies
  • Science

The HiSET exam has individual Literacy Reading and Writing subtests, so five in total.

You can take one or more of the four GED or five HiSET modules when you’re well prepared and in any order. There’s no need to take the entire GED or HiSET battery in one session.

The Hope Grant

GED or HiSET graduates in Georgia may qualify to receive a $500 HOPE GED Grant. They can use this grant for their post-secondary academic education in Georgia.

Georgia’s HOPE GED Grant may be offered to students who acquired their GED (high school equivalency) diploma via Georgia’s Technical College System.

The HOPE GED Grant provides a one-time $500 award that must be used for tuition and books or toward other educational costs at selected public technical colleges or at selected public and private colleges or universities.

There is no requirement for full-time enrollment, but students need to have used their HOPE GED Grant within two years after they received their GED diploma. A $200 HOPE Grant may also be available to cover the cost of taking the GED or HiSET exam.

Online GED and HiSET

In the past, taking the Georgia GED exam could only be done at a state-designated GED testing facility. You needed to appear in person to take the four GED subject tests.

However, all of this changed a few years ago with the introduction of online proctored GED and HiSET tests. An online proctor helps you with the test-taking process and checks that everything happens in line with strict regulations.

To learn more, go to ‘Introducing the online GED test’ for information about the online GED exam.

For more details about the online HiSET exam, <- check out this page.

To qualify for the online GED test, you are required to first reach “green zone” results on the GED Ready test. For each GED sub-exam, there’s a GED Ready practice test, so that makes four overall.

These tests will set you back $7.99 each, for a total of $32, in addition to the regular Georgia testing fees.

Free GED Ready Test Vouchers

Onsego students with an Advantage Plan won’t have to buy the GED Ready tests, since their plan already includes four vouchers for the GED Ready test – a fantastic $32 bonus!

Onsego’s Advantage Plans are already available at $79 for their 6-month plan, and this includes the four GED Ready Test Vouchers.

Should we include or unlist a facility? Do we have to adjust this information? Please inform us here.
