Who is the GED for?

The GED exam is developed to identify the educative level of candidates, which should be comparable to the known high school students have upon graduation. The GED is targeted towards adults who left high school prematurely, so don’t hold a high school diploma, and who want to earn a credential equivalent to a high school diploma. Students who correctly complete the GED exam will be given the Connecticut State High School Diploma. The GED certificate is nationally recognized as equivalent to a regular high school diploma.

Is the GED exam offered online?

No, the GED test is not available online, although you can perfectly well study and prepare for the tests via the internet. In Connecticut, the GED exam is administrated by the Connecticut State Department of Education and needs to be taken at one of the state’s designated test centers.

Internet sites claiming they can provide you with the GED diploma via online test-taking are fraudulent and only want to steal your money, so beware. On the other hand, online preparation can be a blessing for students in remote areas or those with tight schedules.

GED passing score

The scoring scale runs 100 to 200. To just pass the exam, you must have at least 145 points per individual test. The high school equivalency passing score is 145-164; the college-ready passing score is 165-174; the college-ready +college credit passing score is 175-200. In early 2016, the passing score was brought back from 150 to 145. This was needed because the standard appeared to have been set too high when the latest edition of the GED tests was rolled out early 2014.

About Bridgeport

Bridgeport (population 147,000), is situated on the Pequonnock River and Long Island Sound in Fairfield County and is Connecticut’s most populous city. The town has beautiful shoreline parks, interesting museums, great festivals, and (inter)nationally recognized musical performances. The first Bridgeport settlement was made in the 1650’s, and the town originally belonged to the township of Stratford.

The town was chartered in 1836, and its location on the deep Black Rock Harbor allowed for a thriving shipbuilding and whaling industry in the 19th century. Later, the town shifted towards mercantile and manufacturing activities, and when the railroad opened in 1840, the city developed from a whaling center into an important industrial center. The city has some very interesting museums.
