GED Classes Allentown, Pennsylvania

This page contains a full listing of GED® prep class locations and testing sites in the Allentown region.

Pennsylvania welcomed the fully computerized GED for its HSE (high school equivalency) testing program.

Additionally, the state welcomed the HiSET exam which is available both on a computer and in a paper-based format.

Pennsylvania’s HSE program is for adults who left high school without a diploma and gives them the chance to earn an equivalent degree.

Both HSE exams measure knowledge at a level that compares to that of graduating HS seniors.

GED testing is done via four independent modules (subtests) in literacy, math, science, and social studies.

The HiSET has modular five subtests as the Literacy Section comes with independent writing and reading tests.

Online GED or HiSET testing is NOT possible. You must come in person to an official state-approved GED testing site.

Who is the HSE exam for?

The GED (General Education Development) program and the HiSET (High School Equivalency Test) are set up for adults who never finished high school and GED /HiSET preparation classes help them with becoming well prepared. The certificate that you are going to receive upon passing the Pennsylvania GED test is accepted as equivalent to a regular high school diploma by official institutions, businesses, and colleges all across the United States. This also applies to the HiSET alternative. The GED test is only offered on a computer and costs $120. The HiSET is available both on paper and on a computer and costs $90.

One GED test at a time

You can take one of the four GED subtests at the time you’re all set for that section. So you can register for, pay for, and take one part at a time but you’ll need to complete the GED battery within a period of two years. If you wish, you may also sit for the five HiSET modules separately. Go to GED in Pennsylvania for eligibility requirements.

See also this page that has links to all GED schools in the U.S. The minimally required score for each GED module was adjusted to 145. More details can be found on this GED News page.
