This page contains a full listing of GED prep class locations and testing sites in the Allentown region. Pennsylvania uses the fully computerized GED for its high school equivalency testing program.
Additionally, the state welcomed the HiSET exam, which is available both on a computer and in a paper-based format.
The HiSET and GED exams can be taken online and at state-certified test centers.
Pennsylvania’s program is for adults who left high school without a diploma and gives them a chance to earn an equivalent degree.

It doesn’t matter when you left school.
Both exams measure knowledge at a level that compares to that of graduating high school seniors.
GED testing is done via four independent modules (subtests) that assess proficiency in these academic subject fields:
- Language Arts
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
The HiSET has five modular subtests, as the Literacy Section comes with independent writing and reading tests.

Online GED and HiSET Testing
Pennsylvania awards the Commonwealth Secondary School Diploma (CSSD) to students who successfully take the HiSET or GED high school equivalency exam. Both tests had to be taken in person at one of Pennsylvania’s official testing centers, but that’s changed.
For more information on the online proctored HiSET testing option, check out this page: ‘Introducing the online HiSET exam,’ and for more information about the newly launched online GED testing option, go to this page: ‘Welcoming the online proctored GED test.’
