All GED and HiSET prep sites and test centers in the State College region are posted here. Pennsylvania uses two options for high school equivalency (HSE) testing: the GED and HiSET.
GED and HiSET testing can be done online and at official Pennsylvania HSE test facilities. Both exams are for adults without a high school diploma and give them a chance to earn an equivalent credential.
Both tests measure knowledge at a level that’s comparable to that of graduating high school seniors.
The GED includes four sub-exams (independent modules) in

- Social Studies
- English Language Literacy
You may take these modules separately and in the order you prefer.
The HiSET is offered both on paper and on a computer, whereas the GED exam is totally computer-based.
The HiSET has separate writing and reading tests, so five in total, and you can take these tests one at a time as well.

Introducing Online GED and HiSET Testing
In earlier days, GED and HiSET testing could never be done online. You were required to show up personally at an official, state-designated Pennsylvania HSE (High School Equivalency) test center. But recently, all of that changed with the launch of online proctored GED and HiSET testing options.
To learn all about the newly introduced HiSET online proctored exam, check out this page: ‘The online proctored HiSET test,’ and learn all about the recently launched online proctored GED testing option, go to ‘The online proctored GED exam.’

GED and HiSET Scoring
The passing score on each of the four GED tests is 145, and scoring is done on a 100 to 200 scale. So below-passing score: 100-144. Three passing performance levels are possible.
- If you score in the 145-164 range, you attain a GED passing score at the high school equivalency level
- Scores in the 165-174 range indicate you are college-ready
- Scores between 175-200 are college-ready + credit scores
To pass the HiSET exam, you must attain a score of at least 8 (on a scale that runs to 20) on each of the five HiSET subtests. Your score on the essay section needs to be in the 2 to 6 range, and your overall testing result must be between 45 and 100 points.
