This article lists all HiSET and GED prep class sites and testing sites in the Johnson City area. Tennessee is using two options for the state’s high school equivalency (HSE) testing program: the GED and HiSET exams.

GED® and HiSET testing can be done online and at one of Tennessee’s official HSE testing facilities.

Both examinations offer adult learners who didn’t graduate high school one more option to earn an equivalent diploma.

The HiSET has five subtests covering the academic subject areas of

• English Language Writing
• English Language Reading
• Mathematics
• Science
• Social Studies

GED testing involved taking four separate sub-exams. Here, the English Language reading and Writing sections were merged into one Language Arts sub-exam. All HiSET and GED subtests may be taken individually.

The HiSET and GED exams measure knowledge and skills at a level that compares to that of high school students upon graduation.

The HiSET is available in both paper- and computer-based versions, while the GED exam is fully computer-based.

Until recently, sitting for the GED or HiSET exam in an online format was not possible. You had to report, in person, to an official Tennessee HSE test center.

This has now changed with the launch of online proctored GED and HiSET testing. Check below for more information.

Welcoming the Online GED and HiSET Tests

Until recently, you could never sit for the GED or HiSET exam in an online format. Your personal appearance at one of Tennessee’s official HSE test centers was required.
