Four GED Tests

These are the four testing subject areas that are included in the GED (General Education Development) exam: Science, Social Studies, Math, and Literacy.

There is no need to remember many definitions, details, or facts to pass the test. You just have to prove your ability to think analytically and critically about various topics.

The minimum requirement is a 9th-grade reading level, which means you should be able to read and understand letters, forms, and newsletters. In addition to this, you should be able to do fundamental mathematical problems via addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

GED Preparation & Cost

The secret to passing these tests is to develop strong thinking and reading skills. Thus, it is beneficial to you if you do some decent preparation for the GED test.

This page lists the GED classes available in your community. The latest adjustments have ensured that the GED exam meets the Common Core Standards.

The GED exam costs $104 in North Carolina (or $26 per individual test) when taken on-site. Online, the North Carolina GED test costs $144 for the full battery ($36 per subtest). The HiSET exam is priced differently.

Bear in mind, however, that online testing costs more, actually, since you also have to purchase and pass four GED Ready practice tests (for a total of $32) to qualify for online testing.

The online HiSET and GED Tests

In the past, online HiSET or GED testing was not possible. If you were looking to secure a North Carolina high school equivalency credential, you had to show up at an official test center.

Well, the arrival of online GED and HiSET testing a few years ago changed all of that.

To learn more about the online GED test-taking option, go to Welcoming the online GED test.

To read more about the online HiSET exam option, go to Introducing the online HiSET exam.

You can only take the GED exam online if you first have reached passing scores (in the ‘green’ zone) on the GED Ready practice test from GED Testing Service.

Each of the four GED sub-exams has such a practice test. So, that’s four GED Ready tests for a total of $32 ($7.99 each) in addition to the regular test costs.

Free GED Ready Vouchers

Students learning for the GED test with one of Onsego’s Advantage Plans will get four GED Ready Vouchers for free. That’s included in their plan, a wonderful $32 bonus.

Advantage Plans by Onsego are available from $79 (for the 6-month program), and they all come with full access to all the study materials from the start, several support programs, and the four free GED Ready Test Vouchers.
