Why Take a GED California Practice Test?

If you take a timed practice test, you will also learn what it takes to be productive under time pressure. Many GED students complain that if they only would have had more time, they would have reached far higher scores.

The GED and HiSET exams consist of a series of independent tests designed to assess skills and knowledge at a level similar to what may be expected of high school graduates.

Practically all U.S. colleges, universities, government agencies, and employers recognize and accept the credential that’s awarded upon successful completion of the GED or HiSET exam in the same way as a conventional high school degree.

Students who successfully complete one of the two exams in California will receive the California High School Equivalency Certificate.

Eligibility

To qualify for the GED or HiSET exam in California, candidates need to be state residents who are at least 18 years old or within 60 days of their 18th birthday.

17-year-olds must additionally provide additional documentation and submit proof that they’ve been officially withdrawn from school for at least 60 consecutive days.

Successful underage test-takers will not, however, receive their certificates until they’ve reached their 18th birthday.

Candidates cannot already have a secondary education diploma, nor can they be signed up for any other educational program.

The California High School Equivalency Certificate qualifies graduates for a college education, and if they’ve attained scores in the GED College Ready ranges, they may even see taking a college entrance test or attending remedial programs waived.

Cost

In California, the fee for taking the GED at a test center is $164 for the entire GED battery, both when taken online or on-site. You can, however, take and pay for the four modules one at a time ($41 per subject test).

The California HiSET exam costs $100 or $140, depending on whether you take the exam on a computer or in a paper-and-pencil format.

Both exams are available at certified test centers and over the Internet in a proctored format. Testing centers are found all across the state.

The GED exam includes questions in various formats, including reading tasks, multiple-choice questions, short answer questions, and an extended response task, the Essay.

Is the California GED test multiple-choice?

Many of the questions found on the GED test are multiple-choice, but there are also questions in different formats, such as fill-in-the-blank, short answer questions, and draggable answers.

Both the GED and HiSET will ask you as well to produce a 5-6 paragraph essay for which you have 45 minutes.

Is the GED California practice test harder than the actual test in California?

The questions on our practice tests are based on what’s found in the GED exam. So, the level is the same as what you may expect to see on the real GED exam.

Do I have to pass the GED Ready practice test first in California?

In California, GED and HiSET testers are not required to take a prep course or a practice test to qualify when they sit for the exams at a California testing facility. When taking the exams online, attaining passing scores first on the GED Ready practice test or the HiSET practice test is required. The exams are open only to state residents and members of the U.S. armed forces stationed in California.

What is the GED passing score in California?

To pass the GED exam in California or wherever else in the nation, applicants must score at least 145 points on each of the four modules. Scoring takes place on a 100 to 200 scale, and there’s no averaging.

On the five HiSET subtests, the minimum required score on each subtest is 8 out of 20. The total score must be 45 or higher, and your result on the HiSET essay needs to be at least 2 out of a possible 6 points.
