Here, we post a full listing of GED prep classes and testing locations in the Charlotte area. North Carolina uses two options for the state’s high school equivalency testing program: the GED and HiSET.
The North Carolina GED and HiSET exams are available both online and at certified testing centers.
Onsego GED Prep
Pass the GED Test in 2 Months
Learn Just 1 Hour a Day.
It doesn’t matter when you left school.
The assessments offer students who quit high school before graduation one more shot at acquiring an equivalent diploma.
The HiSET is available on paper and on a computer, while the GED is administered exclusively on a computer.
This website offers free online GED classes and practice tests to help you determine if studying online may be a good fit for you. For some students, it is better to prepare for the GED test with a teacher at one of the sites listed below, while others do well with an online program.
If online learning is good for you, you can go ahead with Onsego GED Prep, an online program that the GED publisher (GED Testing Service®) recognizes as “Fully GED Test-Aligned.”
Online GED Classes
A simple and easy way of getting your GED diploma.
The GED has four individual subtests in
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Social Studies
- Science
These modules can be taken separately, one test at a time if you wish, and in your preferred order.
There are five HiSET subtests that are modular as well. Here, the Literacy portion is divided into writing and reading tests.
In the past, testing needed to be done at an official North Carolina test site. There was no online option.
Recently, that has all changed as new options for online HiSET and GED testing were introduced. Read more at the bottom of this post.

Online GED, HiSET Testing
The High School Equivalency (HSE) exam (GED or HiSET) was never offered over the Internet. To acquire a North Carolina HSE degree, you needed to appear at one of North Carolina’s state-approved HSE testing sites in person.
Now, this has all changed with the launch of online GED and HiSET tests. An online proctor will check if your testing is done in accordance with strict regulations. More information about GED online testing can be found here -> ‘Welcoming the online GED exam.’ For information about the newly launched online HiSET exam, check out -> ‘Introducing the online HiSET exam.’
