The Four GED Sub-exams

The totally computer-formatted GED test includes four separate subtests that measure an applicant’s skills and knowledge of these subjects:

  • English Language Literacy
  • Social Studies
  • Math
  • Science

The GED modules may be completed one at a time in the order you prefer.

The assessment measures knowledge at a level comparable to that of high schoolers upon graduation.

GED Passing Score

On each individual GED module, you are required to attain at least a 145 score. Results are calibrated on a 100-200 scale, and averaging is no option. So, to secure your GED diploma, your total score must be 580 or higher.

The four GED modules are independent exams that can be taken one or more at a time. There’s no need to prepare for the entire GED battery all at once. Get ready for one section, pass that subtest, and move on to the next part.

The Online Proctored GED Exam

In earlier days, if you wanted to secure your high school equivalency (HSE) degree, you were always required to show up in person at one of Oregon’s official GED test centers. Online GED testing simply didn’t exist.

Some years back, however, we saw the introduction of an online proctored GED exam as well, so that has changed.

An online proctor will monitor if you do everything in accordance with the regulations. To learn more about this new online GED testing option, go to this post: ‘The online proctored GED test.’

You are only allowed to take the GED exam online after you have achieved passing results (‘green’ scores) on the official practice test from GED Testing Service, GED Ready.

There’s one of these practice tests for each GED subtest, setting you back $32 on top of your Oregon testing fees, since each GED Ready test costs $7.99.

Free GED Ready Tests Vouchers

If you opt for studying toward your GED with an Advantage Plan from Onsego, you will get four GED Ready Vouchers for free. That is included in these plans.

The Advantage Plans from Onsego are very affordable. They already offer a 6-month plan for $79, which also includes four free GED Ready Vouchers and much more.
