The Four Modular GED Sub-exams

GED testing consists of four separate modules (independent subtests) that can be taken individually and in any order.

These modules measure a candidate’s knowledge of the following academic subject areas:

• Social Studies
• Math
• English Language
• Science

The GED assessment is offered exclusively on a computer and in English and Spanish.

Free GED Test in Texas

Thanks to a generous Texas Workforce Commission grant, qualifying test-takers can take the GED exam at no cost in Texas.

To be eligible for free testing, applicants must be Texas residents, at least 21 years of age, and not already have a high school or equivalent credential. The link will lead you to an article with further explanation.

The Online GED Test

In earlier days, you had to show up in person at one of Texas’s state-recognized high school equivalency test centers to earn your GED. Online testing was never an option.

This changed some years back, as we witnessed the arrival of an online proctored GED test.

To qualify for the online GED test, you’ll first have to attain passing scores on the official GED Ready test. In total, you’ll need to pass four GED Ready tests, since there’s a GED Ready test for each GED module.

The GED Ready test costs $7.99 on GED.com, so the total is $32 on top of the regular Texas GED testing fees.
