If you want to earn your HSE (high school equivalency) degree in California, you have multiple options.
The HSE program offers adults without a high school diploma the opportunity to earn an equivalent degree.
The GED test is fully computer-based and has four separate subtests, or modules, in Science, Math, Literacy, and Social Studies.
You have maximally two years to complete the four GED modules. This only counts for the GED!
The TASC and HiSET exams are offered both on-paper and on-computer and include five tests (Literacy has separate reading and writing tests).
All HSE tests assess knowledge at a level similar to what HS seniors are expected to master upon graduation.

GED preparation classes include regular practice testing to see o what sectors candidates must focus on, to measure their progress, and to make them familiar with taking tests on a computer. The GED, HiSET, and TASC programs are created with students at heart and to train candidates to continue their academic education and find good employment that comes with better wages. Online GED testing?
You cannot take the GED, TASC, or HiSET over the internet, and websites that tell a different story are fraudulent. You are required to visit a state-designated test center to take the tests in person, there is simply NO online HSE testing option. Check out GED testing in California to find out if you qualify.
Adults without a high school diploma can opt for the GED track if they want to obtain a diploma that’s across America seen as equivalent to a common H.S. diploma. All three options, GED, HiSET, and TASC lead to the state’s HSE credential that will result in better job options and is your ticket to higher education. The HSE pathway will bring about a better life.
*) Project HYPE
Project HYPE (Helping Youth to Prepare to Excel) is an initiative of the Solano County Workforce Investment Board (WIB), together with Solano Community College, and is set up to prepare young people without a high school diploma to take the HSE exam successfully.
HYPE is offering mentoring, various workshops, and work experience projects. It is the objective of the HYPE program that when young people successfully complete the program, they consider signing up with Solano Community College. HYPE is a government-funded program that started just a few years ago that aims at supporting young people in their efforts to succeed in their education.
Most of the help HYPE provides is for GED applications, and an orientation test is arranged to assess an applicant’s strengths and weaknesses in which specific subject fields. Then the applicant is assigned to a tutor at one of Solano county’s libraries or at other locations. HYPE is providing Math and Literacy tutoring, but candidates can also get assistance in Social Studies and Science.
HYPE does more than only providing educational support, it also manages work experience projects. WIB teams up with local businesses to employ participating students and in this way, they gain work experience, while at the same time earn their income. Participating students will have half a year to get ready for the HSE exam (or high school exit exam if they qualify). In these six months, they will be assessed and their progress will be monitored. Students who are not successful at the HSE exam can have their time extended up to one year. The success rate of the HYPE project is 50 percent, and the project includes some 30 active participants.

Engineering is hot and your HSE diploma gets you into college! Let’s take a look at some popular engineering specializations, though there are, of course, many more directions like industrial engineering or technical engineering.
An environmental engineer is using all sorts of fundamentals of engineering, biology, soil science, and chemistry in an attempt to come up with solutions to prevent or solve environmental issues. These professionals are involved in developing techniques to better deal with, for example, waste disposal, water contamination, air pollution, and they develop ways to improve recycling or matters that relate to public health. Environmental engineers usually are working in a wide variety of settings due to the nature of their tasks.

Agricultural engineers (sometimes also referred to as biological engineers) are active in a variety of fields. Their activities may range from land farming and forestry to aquaculture where foods such as fish are raised. They also may be found working in the development of biofuels or improving conservation, to the animal-environment improvement business or in the food industry where they may be working on methods to improve processed foods.
A lot of agricultural engineers are working mainly in their offices, but there are also those who are spending most of their time at various in or outdoor sites, and others need to travel to farms or other agricultural sites to make sure machinery and equipment will be functioning in accordance with all instructions and in line with state or federal regulations. After earning their high school or GED test diploma must agricultural engineers at least have earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering or a related field such as biological engineering.
Practical experience is highly valued, and many colleges and universities provide engineering certificate programs as well. The job outlook for these engineers will be pretty stable over the coming decade and most growth will come through development and application of new high-tech developments, especially in water resource management, alternative energy, and the food processing industry. In 2016, the average yearly income for agricultural engineers was around $74,250.
A Biomedical Engineer is researching, analyzing, and designing solutions to issues in the world of medicine and biology, and their tasks lie in the field of improving the effectiveness and quality of devices, tools, and all other things related to patient care. These professionals usually can be found performing their tasks in the manufacturing industry, in universities or hospitals, at commercial research labs, at medical or educational institutions, or at various government agencies.
After their high school education (or when they earned their GED test), biomedical engineers will have to possess a bachelor’s degree in the field of biomedical engineering or any related field followed by on-the-job training to become a qualified biomedical engineer. Over the next decade, the job outlook of the world of biomedical engineering is good, A growth of over 25 percent is expected and this is much faster than overall professional expectations.
The population is getting older, technological development is strong, and public awareness is increasing, meaning the demand for these professionals will only become stronger. In 2016, the median wage for a biomedical engineer was around $87,120 per year.
Computer Hardware Engineer
A computer hardware engineer is active in the field of researching, designing, developing, and testing computer components and systems such as circuit boards, processors, memory devices, or routers. They are developing new directions and concepts in computer hardware so they are also responsible for some of the important and rapid developments in computer technology and applications.
These professionals generally are working in research & development laboratories where they are building and testing a variety of different computer models. Most computer hardware engineers are employed by high-tech computer manufacturing companies. Computer hardware technicians and engineers must first get their high school diploma or GED credential, after which they will have to earn at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university program.
The employment options for the world of computer hardware engineering are projected to remain stable over the next decade. Most innovations take place in software development and that’s where most growth can be expected. The average annual salary for a computer hardware engineer was around $100,500 in 2016.
The world of chemical engineering includes applying the fundamentals of chemistry, mathematics, physics, and biology to be able to solve issues that are relating to the use or production of chemicals, food, drugs, fuel, and a wide variety of other products. Chemical engineers are researching, designing, developing, and testing products, equipment and various processes used at large-scale manufacturing of safe and sustainable products.
