This is an overview of GED® prep classes and testing sites in the Sumter area. South Carolina uses the GED exam for high school equivalency (HSE) testing.
GED testing can be done both in an online format and at official South Carolina test facilities.
The HSE program gives persons who did not complete high school the opportunity to get hold of an equivalent diploma.
The GED is fully computerized and has four independent subtests in Math. Literacy, Science, and Social Studies.
You don’t have to complete the four GED subtests or modules in one take. The subtests can be taken separately if you wish.
For information on the newly launched online GED testing option, check the bottom of this page.

Launching the online proctored GED exam
In earlier days, you never had the option to deal with the GED exam via the internet. If you were looking to get hold of your South Carolina high school equivalency (HSE) credential, you had to report personally to a state-designated HSE testing center.
This has now changed, however, with the launch of a new online GED test-taking option. To read all about this development, visit ‘Launching a new online GED option’.
