The GED (General Education Development) program is for persons who left high school without graduating.
HSE (high school equivalency) testing offers them the chance to get hold of a diploma that’s equivalent to a regular HS diploma.
There are four independent GED subtests that measure proficiency at a level that may be expected of graduating high school seniors.
These four subtests (modules) in the academic areas of Literacy, Science, Social Studies, and Math.
You can take the subtests one at a time if you like but you must finish all subtests within a period of two years.

The updated GED exam
Most probably you know that the GED exam was completely remodeled a few years back. The exam was brought in line with college standards and is harmonizing better with actual industry requirements. Most importantly, the GED exam is now only offered in an entirely computer-based model. In recent years, there had been ongoing concerns that the credibility of the GED exam (as an alternative to a high school diploma) was dubious. These worries have now been dealt with and the level to pass the GED test was raised. To see if you qualify to enroll in the program, check out this post: GED testing requirements in Florida.
The computer-based GED exam is much more environmentally friendly than the old format former version as it saves hugely on paper and there are more advantages: online registration is now possible and that is much easier, although students still must report to an official GED test site in person for the actual test.
One more good thing is that students now immediately can check their scores. With the former GED exam, they needed to wait in anxiety for two or three weeks. Educators and administrators were first concerned that many older applicants would have tremendous difficulty because they are not familiar with working on a computer, but results show that this is no problem.
The passing score on each of the four GED subtests is 145 on a 100-200 scale. Holders of a GED diploma are sure to get better job options and the diploma opens the doors of colleges and universities.

GED Fast Track
First Coast Technical College offers a new GED prep course, GED Fast Track. This one-week GED preparation class educates students on the four subject fields of the GED examination, math, literacy, social studies, and science, and the new program is endorsed by Florida’s Department of Education. The tuition fee for this GED Fast Track course is $30. The GED Ready (practice) test is used to check the educational level of a student and to set up a personalized study plan.
If students, at the end of the Fast Track Program, are not enough prepared to take the GED exam successfully, they can, at no extra charge, continue in regular GED classes. Before they can sign up for the GED Fast Track program, applicants need to complete the TABE test free of charge. The TABE test is used to indicate an applicant’s academic knowledge and skills. If you want to make an appointment to take the TABE, please contact the school at 904-547-3282. For all other GED-related matters call 904-547-3322.
