Arizona uses the GED (General Educational Development) exam for high school equivalency (HSE) testing.

The HSE program offers people who didn’t graduate high school one more shot at earning an equivalent degree.

The GED exam includes four separate subtests that measure basic knowledge that students are taught in four years of high school.

The subject tests are in literacy, math, science, and social studies, and you are allowed two years to pass all 4 subject tests.

Arizona GED testers must additionally take and pass the state’s Civics Exam.

Independent subtests

There’s no need to take the entire GED battery in one session. You can take the four tests one at a time within a two-year window. The GED credential allows people to further their academic education and advance in the employment market. The GED passing score on each subtest is 145 out of 200 points.

Passing score adjustment

The GED scoring method was adjusted lust two years after the new GED program was launched. The passing score was lowered five points to 145 because studies had shown that in college, GED holders were frequently outperforming their high school counterparts and that the GED passing bar was raised too high.

Can I take the GED exam online?

Getting well-prepared can perfectly be done via online courses, but the GED exam is still NOT offered via the internet. Testing itself must be done at a designated test center, and here you must be able to show two forms of identification before you can take the four tests (if you wish you can now take one test at the time you feel ready to do so). online-acquired documents will not be accepted by employers and schools.

To qualify for the GED program, you must prove that you are not at that moment registered for any school program and not have a secondary education credential. Sometimes (especially when you are under 18) you are required to provide the testing facility with a withdrawal document from the school you last attended.
