GED Classes New Castle, Pennsylvania

In this post, you can discover all GED®-HiSET prep sites and test centers in the New Castle region.

Pennsylvania uses the computerized GED exam for its HSE (high school equivalency) testing program.

Additionally, the state welcomed the HiSET exam for that purpose.

The HiSET can be done both on-computer and on-paper and is more affordable than the GED exam.

The HSE program is for persons who quit high school without a diploma and gives them the opportunity to get hold of an equivalent degree.

The GED exam has four independent subtests in the subject areas of Math, Literacy, Science and Social Studies.

You can take (and pay for) one GED subtest (module) at a time within a 2-year time frame.

The HiSET contains five tests (the section literacy is divided into a writing and a reading test) that are not modular.

How to prepare for the GED fast

Four GED tests, five HiSET tests

Lessons taken in GED preparation classes address the subject areas of the four tests that are included in the new GED exam: literacy or language arts (reading and writing combined), math, science, and social studies. For literacy, you will be allowed 155 minutes, for math 115 minutes, and for social studies and science, 70 and 90 minutes respectively. To find out if you qualify, go to GED-HiSET testing in Pennsylvania.

The GED is a modular test, meaning that you can take one of the four tests (modules) when you are ready to do so, no need to take all tests in a row. You test results have a 2-year validity. The HiSET alternative comes with five tests (there’s a writing and a reading test) that can not be taken separately. The HiSET costs $90 (paper-based or computer-based), and the GED (only on computer) is $120.

The HSE credential that is all over North America accepted in the same way as a common high school diploma. Holding the HSE diploma will surely lead to better job opportunities and is your ticket to a college education. Check out also this page that has links to all GED, HiSET, and TASC prep locations in the US.

GED passing score

The new GED program has a new scoring model. For all four subtests, you needed to come to a total score of at least 600 points (150 per testing subject) but that was lowered at the beginning of 2016. You now are required to reach a score of at least 145 points on each test, and there is no averaging. The scale on which your score is measured runs from 100 to 200. In order to pass the HiSET, you must come to a score in the 8-20 range on each individual sub-test, your essay result must be between 2 and 6, and your overall testing result must be in the 45-100 range.
