This article shows you all GED prep locations and test sites in the Malone area. New York State uses the computer-based GED test for its high school equivalency testing program.
The GED exam is for individuals who did not finish high school and offers them the opportunity to earn an equivalent credential.
The GED® (General Education Development) exam has four separate subtests that measure knowledge at a level that is expected of high school grads.
The four testing fields are science, math, social studies, and language arts (writing and reading combined in one sub-exam).
In the period 2014-2021, New York State used the TASC exam for HSE (high school equivalency) testing. This program, however, was discontinued at the end of 2021. You don’t have to worry that earlier TASC passing scores lost their value. They also are valid for the GED exam!
The GED exam is entirely computer-based and available at official test centers only in New York State. Online testing is not (yet?) an option in the state.
The GED test is free to New York State residents. Only four states offer the HSE exam at no cost to their residents.

Prepare Well
The GED diploma is your ticket to a rewarding career and allows for a college education. Practically all colleges and universities accept the GED credential in exactly the same way as they accept a high school diploma.
The computerized GED test, however, is a challenging assessment that measures knowledge at a level comparable to that of graduating high school seniors. So getting perfectly prepared is your key to success on the GED test.
You can contact one of the facilities listed above if you prefer to learn under the guidance of dedicated and experienced instructors, but if you can learn independently as well, perhaps following an online course will be more convenient because that allows you to study where and when suits you best.
GED Scoring
The four independent GED sub-exams are scored on a scale from 100 to 200. On each of the tests, you must attain at least a result of 145 points. So, your overall score can never be less than 580. There are three passing score zones:
- 145-164: This is the high school equivalent passing score.
- 165-174: Scores in this range are in the college-ready category.
- 175-200: Scores in this range indicate college readiness and will also yield up to ten college credits, depending on the subject and the school you apply to.
The GED exam is only offered on a computer, and to be honest, this makes sense since practically all jobs, also at the entry level, require applicants to master at least basic keyboarding and computer skills.
