GED Classes Malone, New York

This article shows you all GED® (in New York: TASC™) prep locations and test sites in the Malone area. New York State uses the TASC exam for its high school equivalency (HSE) testing program.

The HSE exam is for individuals who did not finish high school and offers them the opportunity to earn an equivalent credential.

The TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion) exam has five subtests that measure knowledge at a level that is expected of high school grads.

The testing fields are science, math, language writing, language reading, and social studies.

The TASC exam is offered both on a computer and in a paper-based version. The test is free to New York State residents.

Online TASC testing is no option. You need to come to an official TASC testing site and sit for the test in person.

Why the TASC?

Some states, including New York and Indiana, had already announced early on that they would stop with the GED and work with a different provider for the ‘high school equivalency’ examination.

The new provider was CTB/McGraw-Hill and their assessment system is called the Test Assessing Secondary Completion, or TASC. To see if you qualify, go to New York State TASC Testing.

Many states, e.g. California, have been working hard to modify the legislative policies language regarding high school equivalency testing, and there were many concerns about costs, accessibility, and flexibility regarding the GED exam and the offered alternatives.

There was (and still is) much debate about examining adult learners all over America, and the TASC exam provides a cheaper and easily accessible, and very flexible alternative to the too expensive GED exam.

On top of that, the GED exam is only offered on a computer, while the TASC is available both in computer-based, and paper-and-pencil formats. So New York State exchanged the GED test with the more affordable TASC exam (developed by CTB/McGraw-Hill) for the state’s HSE (high school equivalency) testing program.
