If you don’t have a high school diploma, earning a GED (General Education Development) diploma is a great option. This is your route to improve your career prospects, increase your earnings potential, and further your education.
California uses two options for high school equivalency testing, the GED and the HiSET exams.
The assessments can be taken online and at official California test centers. Read more below.
Both options provide adults with the chance to obtain a certification that has the same legal value as a common high school diploma.
Both the GED and the HiSET assess knowledge and academic skills at a level that compares to that of high school graduates.
The GED exam is fully computerized and has four separate modules (subtests).
The GED subtests are in Language Arts (reading and writing combined), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
The HiSET contains five subtests, as the Language part has separate reading and writing subtests.
The HiSET exam is available in both paper-based and computerized formats, whereas the GED is available only on a computer.
The five HiSET testing fields are Language Arts-Reading, Language Arts-Writing, Science, Math, and Social Studies.

Online HiSET And GED Testing
The HiSET and GED exams are now offered in a proctored, online format as well. To take the GED exam online, candidates need to score in the “green zone” on the GED Ready practice test. To learn more about the online GED test, <- check out this article.

Taking GED Practice Tests
Among the most important things that you can do to be successful on the GED exam is to take multiple practice tests. These are available through a few different sources, including online. Look for interactive programs that will allow you to learn from your mistakes after you have made them.
You can also buy prep books which will not only go through all of the materials which will be on the test. They will also offer you the kinds of practice tests that are most in sync with the test that you will be taking.
Make sure that you are taking your time when going through these tests to learn more from them, and reading newspapers is always good for your language skills.
Preparation Is Key
Whenever you are trying to get a GED (General Education Development) diploma, there are many things that you will have to do. The method of preparation that you will have to go through will allow you to be ready to take the test so that you will only have to take it one time. The better that you prepare for the test, the easier it will be for you to pass it the first time.
