GED Classes El Monte, California

This article includes an overview of HSE prep facilities and testing sites in the El Monte area.

California uses three options for HSE (high school equivalency) testing, GED®, TASC, and HiSET.

HSE testing offers individuals who did not complete high school the opportunity to earn an equivalent credential.

HSE testing occurs at a similar level as may be expected of a graduating HS senior.

The GED exam comes with four individual modules (subtests) that must be taken entirely on a computer in maximally two years.

The four GED modules are in Math (Mathematical Reasoning), Literacy (Reasoning through Language Arts), Science and Social studies.

The TASC and HiSET are available in both paper-and-pencil and a computerized format.

These alternatives have five tests (individual reading and writing tests) that cannot be taken separately.

Can I join the army with a GED?

TASC-HiSET

The high school equivalency (HSE) exam enables you to show that you command skills and knowledge at the same level that graduating high school seniors must master. While the GED is entirely computer-based are the HiSET and TASC available both on paper and on a computer. These two alternatives include five subject tests as the literacy part has separate reading and writing and tests. If you want to get hold of your HSE diploma, you must appear in person at a state-designated testing center. There is NO online testing option. For eligibility details go to HSE Testing CA requirements.

Online GED registration

Registration for the GED exam must now be done online via GED.com where you need to create your account at the portal MyGED. Here you can also find a wealth of information related to the GED exam, schools, career options, and economic trends and developments. Here you can schedule and pay for your tests, one at a time if you wish. You pay only for the test(s) you schedule.

One test at a time (GED)

The GED exam includes four individual test in these academic subject fields: Literacy (Reasoning through Language Arts), Math (Mathematical Reasoning), Science, and Social Studies. The GED program lets you sit for one of the four subtests whenever you are ready to do so, and you have two years to complete the entire battery of four tests! You now can prepare for one subject area, take and pass that tests, and move on to the next section. Please note that this does not apply to the HiSET and TASC exams!

Adjusted GED scoring

Please note that the GED passing score was adjusted by five points to 145 (down from 150) in March 2016. You can read all about this news in this Passing Score News article. TASC and HiSET come with their own specific scoring methods.

Maybe you want to attend an Esthetician School

Do you want to help people look and feel beautiful? Then you should become an esthetician, also known as a skin care specialist. In this career, you give your clients facials, full-body treatments, head and neck massages, apply makeup, and remove hair with waxing or, with additional training, laser treatments. You should also know how to keep records of each of your client’s specific skin care treatments.

Formal training at an esthetician school can prepare you for this exciting career field. Depending on where you live, you first may need a high school diploma as GED as the basic educational requirement for admission to the school. Coursework may include skin care, providing full-body treatments, massage, make-up application, and more. When you complete your schooling, you traditionally need to pass a written, oral, or practical exam to gain your state-certified license.

You may also want to take courses in business, marketing, and management if you want to run your own business someday. Today, nearly half of all personal workers are self-employed, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Moving into self-employment may mean starting your own salon or leasing space from an existing salon. Other possible places of employment include medical practitioner offices, travel accommodations (such as hotels), or even hospitals.

In 2008, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, estheticians earned a mean hourly wage of $15.40 or $32,040 on an annual basis. With facial procedures growing more popular every day, and more spas and medical settings offering these procedures to help clients’ complexions, opportunities should abound for future estheticians.
